Former earl of Leicester makes all-time rich list, by Gemma Peplow

Cover of by Philip Beresford and William D. Rubinstein

"John of Gaunt, a former Earl of Leicester, would be worth £55 billion if he were alive today - considerably richer than Roman Abramovich or Sir Richard Branson. He has just been named as one of the wealthiest Britons of all time in a book compiled by historians and authors of the annual Sunday Times Rich List. The Richest of the Rich book used figures from probate records, history books and ancient documents and adjusted fortunes to today's values. Authors Bill Rubinstein and Philip Beresford said it took about six months to write the book."
