Ian Murphy trades his own account using trend-following, swing trading, and daytrading strategies. He studied under experienced traders such as Alexander Elder and Kerry Lovvorn. Working in metal recycling early in his career led him to precious metals and then to becoming an independent trader, not just of commodities but stocks and other financial instruments. He brought together the lessons learned in trading over the years in a book, Way of the Trader. In it, written to help other traders find their own way to success, he shares both the highs and lows of his trading experiences and identifies what he feels are the most important aspects of his journey. Inspiration for the book came from interactions with other traders, which helped him to distill his experiences into guiding principles
