Discussing the inspiration for the book, the author explained how, during the research and writing process, she realised that “mistakes are not only predictable, but preventable” and she became “fascinated” with the psychology of misjudgement.

“I always knew I would write a book at some stage, so it’s not that the idea was foreign to me, but I wasn’t sure which angle it would take,” she says.
